THE RAP-UP: Dr. Dre’s, “The Chronic” Coming to Streaming Services, YNW Melly Tests Positive for COVID-19, + more!
Dr. Dre’s, “The Chronic” Coming to All Streaming Platforms
In recent news, it’s official that Dr. Dre’s debut album, “The Chronic” will be getting a full streaming service release on none other than 4/20/20 (WEED). Previously the album was exclusively available on Apple Music.
This album is truly timeless and a huge piece in hip hop history. The influences and the iconic artist’s that rose through this album’s release is staggering. Incredible that Dr. Dre managed to not only release some of the most popular hip hop music during his run, but he also signed some of the biggest artists in the hip hop game, such as Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. Even if he didn’t sign every artist, he had a huge hand in developing other artists such as Snoop Dogg and hip hop super group, N.W.A.
YNW Melly Tests Positive for COVID-19!
With the coronavirus wreaking havoc on the world and economy, more and more people are getting infected. New-ish rapper, YNW Melly officially tests positive for COVID-19. Reports state that the prisoner he shared a cell with was sick and even if he didn’t have COVID-19, I can’t imagine prison conditions are very sanitary.
Here’s the official statement on his instagram account (presumably run by management).
Kodak Black Accuses NBA Youngboy of Being a Rat!
Kodak Black isn’t the smartest man in the world. He has his moment’s, but then usually follows up by destroying any respect you had for him as a person (don’t take this the wrong way, big fan of Kodak’s music, but disappointed with him as a fellow human lol). Currently Kodak Black takes residence in jail as he frequently does, but even from jail Kodak manages to stoke flames and rile people up. This past week Kodak Black has thrown accusations at up-and-coming rapper, NBA Youngboy for working with the feds! He posted a long screenshot from his note’s app on his instagram page (which has been deleted since).
That’s a fairly large accusation for people that are in the hip hop scene. The culture refuses cooperation with law enforcement, so this claim on Kodak’s part is very bold (especially if he end’s up being wrong). NBA Youngboy wasn’t cool with the disrespect and went off on his Instagram Live broadcast. (Warning: Lots of swearing)
RIP: Chynna & Mac P Dawg
It’s been a mournful week in hip hop. Two rappers have passed away. Chynna, 25 year-old rapper has reportedly died from an alleged overdose – a comment from her cousin responding to a fan provides us with further insight of the circumstances. She passed away yesterday, April 9th, 2020.
Rapper, Mac P Dawg, member of rising hip hop group, Shoreline Mafia has sadly passed away 3-days ago. This upcoming album from the group was projected to be Mac P Dawg’s final release with the rap group. Shocking and sad news all around.
Both rappers received plenty of tributes and respect from fellow artist’s and fans everywhere. RIP.
Playboi Carti Arrested!
One of my favorite rappers, Playboi Carti has been unfortunately been arrested by the police over a drug and gun charge in Clayton County, Georgia.
Police report that they found 3 guns, 12 bags of marijuana, xanax, codeine and oxycodone. Smh Carti, this isn’t the time to be fucking up! There’s a pandemic going on and you somehow manage to get locked up when there’s nobody around. AND we’re still waiting on your new album, Whole Lotta Red!
Gorillaz Release 3rd “Song Machine” Single – “Aries”
Gorillaz have been on a ROLL! I’m biased because I grew up listening to the Gorillaz. But over the last two albums I’ve been pretty let down with the music, and it seems I’m not the only fan that feels this way. The good news is that it seems the group has heard our voices and have been returning to their roots. All three songs released under their new “Song Machine” series have been amazing. All unique and very much “Gorillaz”. Check out the music video below and decide what you think of the new music yourself.
