150 days after the 2016 World Series ended in spectacular fashion, the 2017 MLB regular season is finally set to begin. Though many have thought baseball has become a bit dull in recent years, the 2017 season is gearing up to be as exciting as ever, thanks to the game’s many talented, fun to watch teams. Let’s take a look at the top teams heading into the 2017 season.
The defending World champs enter the 2017 season as World Series favorites once again. Though Dexter Fowler, Jason Hammel and Aroldis Chapman are no longer on the squad, the rest of team remains pretty much intact. With stars like Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, and potential breakout stars like Kyle Schwarber and Javier Baez, the Cubs have a high probability of securing The Commissioner’s Trophy for a second year in a row.
The current Cubs team isn’t the only successful roster put together by Theo Epstein. The President of the Cubs also deserves some of the credit for the current Red Sox clubr. While Epstein left his post as the Red Sox’s GM after the 2011 season, Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley, and Travis Shaw were all drafted prior to his departure to the Windy City. The Red Sox won a well-respected 93 games last season, but with the team’s young stars having one more year of experience under their belt, a 100+ win season isn’t out of the question.
After a stellar 2016 that ended with an unfortunate loss in the World Series to the Cubs in seven games, the Indians are looking for revenge this MLB season. With a strong rotation led by Corey Klube,r a bullpen to be reckoned with thanks to Andrew Miller and Cody Allen, the Indians’ opponents aren’t going to have an easy time scoring runs. Paired with offensive powerhouses like Mike Napoli and the newly acquired Edwin Encarnacion, the Indians are the favorite to run away with the American League Central.
