The Backstreet Boys are back. The beloved boy band, who made their start over 20 years ago are headed to Vegas for a residency at The Axis at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. The group became popular behind hits, such as “I Want It That Way” and “Everybody”, and will join Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears, who are both calling The Axis home with permanent residencies. Unfortunately, there are currently no plans for joint performances, which would of surely had fans of 90s pop in a frenzy.
The Axis at Planet Hollywood Residency
Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, A.J. McLean, Kevin Richardson, and Howie Dorough will take the stage tonight for the first of 26 shows. Currently the tour is slated to run through July 1 at The Axis at Planet Hollywood. Named “Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life”, the residency will be the first performances by the group since their “In a World Like This Tour,” wrapped up in 2015. That tour stopped in over 35 countries during its 140-show run between May 2013 and June 2015, and grossed over $32 million in 2014 alone.
BSB is coining the run of shows as a “trial run” before they decide if they want to take on Sin City fulltime. BSB’s Nick Carter stated that their shows will have “all of the bells and whistles Vegas has to offer.” This could include a huge production with lots of dancers. With the string of shows showing extremely song sales, there’s little doubt that this will turn into a permanent gig for the group.
The Backstreet Boys are one of the few boy bands of the 90s who have succeeded at staying relevant into the 2010s. With three world tours, their 2015 documentary, Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of, and now their Las Vegas Residency, all in the last seven years, the group is showing no signs of slowing down.
