Top 5 Concerts
CMA Music Festival: Nissan Stadium – Nashville│Nashville, TN│June 8th-11th
The CMA Music Festival is one of country’s biggest festivals. In the heart of Nashville, the city of country, the festival takes over for the weekend. Nashville is crazed with events recently, as the NHL Nashville Predators are in the Stanley Cup Finals. The CMA Music Festival began yesterday but goes through the weekend. In addition to Nissan Stadium as the main stage, there are many other stages scattered throughout the city, as well.
U2 & One Republic: Hard Rock Stadium│Miami Gardens, FL│June 11th
U2 continues their stadium tour with new opener OneRepublic replacing The Lumineers. This is one of a few switchoffs throughout their tour with opening acts arguably as popular as U2 themselves (jokes, but the openers are huge additions to the tour).
Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold & Volbeat: NRG Stadium│Houston, TX│June 11th
Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band & ZZ Top: Toyota Stadium│Frisco, TX│June 10th
Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band got started on their summer tour. ZZ Top makes a guest appearance at this show, adding extra incentive for the concert. Buffett is the perfect summertime performer, so get ready to relax and enjoy the evening.
Neil Diamond: Mohegan Sun Arena – CT│Uncasville, CT│June 11th
Neil Diamond continues in Connecticut for his “50 Year Anniversary World Tour.” This number tops all of the other anniversary tours going on this summer.
What’s In Tune: New Music
It’s official: I’m really disappointed in Katy Perry. It began with that gut feeling after “Chained to the Rhythm.” After an outspoken political season and a hard-hitting liberal agenda, I expected Perry to rebound with a vicious album regarding American social issues. This would not only be a total contrast to One of the Boys, but it would be a divisive one. “I Kissed A Girl” is brilliant in its own right. However, artists need to continue to develop, which can be hard for longtime fans or positive in artistic growth. Her relationships with John Mayer and Orlando Bloom, her Taylor Swift feud that nobody (NOBODY) can seem to let go, her 2016 Democratic National Convention performance. All of this fueled an interesting last five years. Prism dropped in 2013, just shy of four years ago.
Where It Went Wrong
That is more than enough time to conjure up something greater than a flimsy breakup album. And what’s worse: instead of acknowledging the theme, Perry has spun a tale regarding its broader performance as a socially-conscious work, as well. “Bon Appétit” includes the thousandth unnecessary Migos feature so far this year. “Chained To The Rhythm” dipped into Caribbean influences but fell short. “Swish Swish” features master prowess Nicki Minaj, but it feels like a bad dance number out of a warped neon EDM party. Her SNL performances didn’t help, as Perry awkwardly danced with Migos, trap kings who don’t need Perry’s help in the limelight.
Then, she has her boldly perfect moments. Her performance at the One Love Manchester concert. Her dedication to social issues outside of the studio. It’s not Katy Perry’s character I question or her intent. Rather, there is a connection missing between Witness and her personal agenda, and I cannot seem to understand why they don’t match up. Ironically, Katy Perry’s “Witness: The Tour” is sure to be worthwhile. One area that has never failed the pop star is in her performance style. Over-the-top, even outrageous, Perry’s tours are a complete party of fun and energy. Yet there some disconnect between the odd lead-up to Witness that contrasts with the Katy Perry fans saw at One Love Manchester. The guess would be a producer’s hand in streamlining Perry’s music into pop fluff.
Truth is, I miss the girl with the cherry Chapstick and want her back.

— SZA (@sza) June 5, 2017
SZA is the new artist to watch. Her R&B tones and ability to flow in and out of hip-hop presents a well-rounded artist package. SZA is the newest and only female R&B member to join Top Dawg. Top Dawg, run by icon Eminem and under Dr. Dre’s Aftermath, includes Kendrick Lamar among other hip-hop prodigies. Her debut album CTRL dropped today and features some of these artists including Lamar. Preceding the release, SZA dropped “Love Galore” featuring Travis Scott, “Drew Barrymore,” and “Broken Clocks.”
The production of these singles is smooth enough to be listen-while-you-work music, but don’t be fooled. The pointed lyrics reveal her fangs under the R&B genre blindfold. In “Drew Barrymore,” SZA unravels, “I’m sorry I’m not more attractive / I’m sorry I’m not more ladylike / I’m sorry I don’t shave my legs at night / I’m sorry I’m not your baby mama / I’m sorry you got karma comin’ to you / Collect and soak in it right.” Much like Solange’s A Seat At the Table, much like women in general, don’t mistake softness for weakness.

Lady Antebellum│Heart Break│B
Lady Antebellum is dropping their first album in three years. This precedes the start of their summer “You Look Good Tour” beginning in June. They are also performing at the CMA Music Festival this weekend. The only single that dropped before the album is “You Look Good,” a swanky, horns-infused, Little-Big-Town song that demonstrates the group’s growth since the last album. Band members remarked that the break from the last album was needed. They feel more excited and focused on the new music than ever before. In The Boot article, member Dave Haywood remarked that the album title is less about a broken heart and more about giving yourself and your heart a break when needed. Expect to see Lady A lean towards soul and funk country on this album. There are also no features on Heart Break.
Heart Break Tracklist:
1. “Heart Break”
2. “You Look Good”
3. “Somebody Else’s Heart”
4. “This City”
7. “Think About You”
8. “Good Time to Be Alive”
9. “Big Love in a Small Town”
11. “Teenage Heart”
Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie│Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie│C+
Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie released their self-titled debut collaborative album today. The title is as creative as the album itself. While Buckingham wanders moreso into his solo feel, the album itself feels like a Fleetwood Mac rerun. The chords, the lyrics, the feeling is all nostalgic of the ’70s. This begs the question: is a reunion actually in the works? Is this the predecessor? Though details might not be known, Buckingham and McVie are setting up for it perfectly. In regards to future duo albums, maybe not so much.
The two members are touring together throughout this summer.
Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie Tracklist:
1. “Sleeping Around the Corner”
2. “Feel About You”
3. “In My World”
4. “Red Sun”
5. “Love Is Here to Stay”
6. “Too Far Gone”
