Top 5 Concerts
BTS – Bangtan Boys: Honda Center│Anaheim, CA│April 1st
BTS – Bangtan Boys are finishing up their brief U.S. tour leg with two nights at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. April 1st is the first of the two nights. This is part of their “2017 BTS Live Triology Episode III: The Wings Tour.” K-pop’s consistent popularity is demonstrated through the high level of interest in the U.S., showing that the genre continues to surge with its focus on girl groups and boy bands.
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood: United Supermarkets Arena│Lubbock, TX│April 1st
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood continue their “Garth Brooks World Tour” in Texas. Again, they have two shows on April 1st, one at 3PM and one at 7PM. April 1st is the only day with two shows. They are in Lubbock, TX for four days in total.
Bon Jovi: Wells Fargo Center – PA│Philadelphia, PA│March 31st
Bon Jovi is on their “This House Is Not For Sale Tour” that lands in Philadelphia on March 31st. MACH22 is the opening act contest winner who will open for Bon Jovi that night. It is in their hometown, as well, making it a perfect opportunity for the band.
Billy Joel: The New Coliseum│Uniondale, NY│April 5th
Billy Joel is back in New York, but not New York City like usual. Instead, he is visiting western New York for one show before heading back to his Madison Square Garden residency in the city for one night, too. It will give his New York fans who don’t get the chance to visit the city the ability to see him live, which is a pretty smart and special move for Joel.
Rod Stewart: Caesars Palace – Colosseum│Las Vegas, NV│April 1st
What’s In Tune: New Music
King Kendrick is rolling into April 7th.
The Chainsmokers│”The One”│C
Kudos to The Chainsmokers for attempting something else besides upbeat EDM with high-profile features. However, maybe they should stick to that.
Nelly Furtado│The Ride│B-
Nelly Furtado has two sides to her: either “I’m Like a Bird” or “Promiscuous.” Both were hits in the early 2000s, but one is a free-flowing, indie pop hit, and one is a sassy, radio-centric flirtation with Timbaland. Furtado is not someone mainstream media hears a lot about anymore. However, I thought it was worth noting her new album that drops Friday, as sometimes the return of certain stars is worth noting due to their progress.
In The FADER, Furtado allowed readers and listeners to tune in early to hear her new record. She declares, “The Ride is my hard-knocks album where I ride in a sin confessional and celebrates my mistakes. The equation is imperfection = beauty. The record for me is a palette cleanse, and a chance for me to showcase my songwriting with the help of John Congleton’s unique and modern production style.” Therefore, fans can expect a Mary-Lambert-like take on pop on this album where faults are purged in a rough, candid cleansing that doesn’t take away from the bright and shiny format of mainstream music.
The Ride Tracklist:
1. “Cold Hard Truth”
3. “Carnival Games”
5. “Paris Sun”
6. “Sticks and Stones”
8. “Pipe Dreams”
10. “Tap Dancing”
11. “Right Road”
Kodak Black│Painting Pictures│B
The irony of this album is the artist himself isn’t even free. Kodak Black, after violating house arrest, is in Broward Country, Florida jail. However, this is not stopping the release of his highly-anticipated album Painting Pictures. Kodak Black is also scheduled to tour with Future, Migos, and Tory Lanez for the “Nobody Safe Tour” starting in May. In addition, Kodak Black is only 19-years-old. However, his life and music demonstrate enough drama to put him at 30. He recently served a sentence for robbery false imprisonment, fleeing a law enforcement officer, and possessing a firearm by a delinquent.
Amidst all of this, his first single “Tunnel Vision” skyrocketed to the Billboard Hot 100 chart’s Top 10. In addition, the controversial music video displays racial tension in modern day America. A KKK member is hung in the video, as Kodak Black raps in certain scenes that switch to a black man and white supremacist fighting, as well.
Painting Pictures Tracklist:
1. “Day For Day”
2. “Coolin and Booted”

Bob Dylan is touring in 2017 after dropping his new album Triplicate. It has been a busy past year or so for the superstar. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016 and didn’t recognize the honor immediately. Some assumed the worst, that he was “too good to acknowledge it,” to find out later than his delay and awards show absence was due to disbelief and process rather than his own ego.
Dylan now dropped an album that contains all cover songs from the ’30s to ’50s separated into three parts based on theme. It is his first three-record set ever, demonstrating yet another new avenue for one of music’s biggest influences. It is an ode to great crooners of the past century, but none of the originals put a spin on these songs the way that Dylan can. So far, reviews are mostly positive. He continues his streak of reworking hits while still maintaining independence and artistic integrity. Original artists include Frank Sinatra, Charles Strouse, Carolyn Leigh, and Lee Adams.

Fleetwood Mac│Tango in the Night│B+
The reissued version of Fleetwood Mac‘s Tango in the Night declares a potential end-in-sight for the band. Through all the changes: the lineup switches, the breakups, the makeups, the pinnacles and valleys, Fleetwood Mac remains iconic in their influence in the rock realm. Stevie Nicks, along with other band members, have had successful solo careers, as well. However, the reissue of Tango in the Night revives the full concept of a Fleetwood Mac record over the years.
Lindsey Buckingham, while attempting to work on a solo record, received advice to metamorphose his ideas into a new Fleetwood Mac album in the mid-’80s. The record reflects the band’s nature at the time: still talented but slowly eroding over the years due to drug habits and other rock star tendencies. However, Buckingham conducted the mechanics to the point of profitability. Pitchfork said it best; it is “a remarkably complete album, a lavish garden growing out of negative space. Just a dream.”
This reissue comes in 2017, the same year as their rumored farewell tour. The perfect timing correlates the re-release of the band’s final album as a quintet with their final tour as a group, as well. Check TicketNetwork for more announcements regarding the rock band’s farewell.

Ed Sheeran just dropped his new album ÷ in March. He will continue his talk show rounds, as his “Ed Sheeran World Tour” is heating up in 2017 for indoor arenas only. The mega pop star rebooted in the last year or so, and he’s ready to tour straight through 2018.
Pitbull featuring Stephen Marley│The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon│April 3rd
Pitbull just dropped his new album Climate Change. It sounds much like any other Pitbull record; nothing special can be retrieved from it. However, Stephen Marley is a reggae talent not to be underestimated, and he features on Pitbull’s “Options” off of the new album. Their performance will most likely show a genre side to Pitbull that isn’t seen as much in his club bangers.
Blake Shelton│The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon│April 4th
Blake Shelton, with his longtime stint on The Voice and lack of productivity in quality country music, jokes about turning into a television personality. It’s not a joke anymore. Shelton’s time on The Tonight Show will surely be funny and fun, but we’re all starting to get tired of the Gwen Stefani My Girlfriend jokes, the excessive drinking jokes, the jokes. Shelton is no longer a country star, and I’m not sure if he ever was one. His album last year flopped, and he also took no part in writing any of the songs on it. Maybe this is because I’m still blown away by Miranda Lambert’s The Weight of These Wings. Maybe a further interest in country allows me to understand where he sits in the genre. Those aside, I’m tired of Shelton and his jokes because a flimsy, bro-country star isn’t funny. It’s overdone.
Flo Rida featuring 99 Percent│The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon│April 5th
Flo Rida will be on The Tonight Show, which seems like an odd set up, as he hasn’t released a new album since 2015’s MY HOUSE. Therefore, this could be the sign of an upcoming album? He dropped the single “Game Time” featuring Sage The Gemini in February, but there was no mention of 99 Percent (who?). Curious to see how this one pans out.
Jason Derulo featuring Ty Dolla $ign│The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon│April 6th
Jason Derulo just dropped a fun pregame song in “Swalla” featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign. He will most likely perform this on The Tonight Show, as Jason Derulo always seems to get his name on the right tracks and the right feature spots.
Zara Larsson just dropped her debut album So Good. One of the songs, the title track “So Good,” includes a feature from Ty Dolla $ign. Therefore, they will certainly be performing this hit on James Corden. Larsson is also starting her “So Good Tour” soon.
Demi Lovato│The Late Late Show with James Corden│April 5th
Demi Lovato is making her talk show rounds, and fans can only hope that means new music in 2017. Lovato dropped a stellar record in 2015 with “Confident,” “Cool for the Summer,” and other hits off of Confident. She seems to be in a good place, so what that will mean for her future artistic evolution?
Khalid is the artist to watch right now. His presence on Ellen verifies that, as his new album American Teen blew up with the hit song “Location.” He is only in his late teens, as the names insinuates, and his debut album is about his first heartbreak. Though the sad feelings might be redundant, the chill, quirky, zen state of American Teen is excellent. A.
Demi Lovato and Ed Sheeran│The Ellen DeGeneres Show│April 5th
Demi Lovato and Ed Sheeran will both be on The Ellen Show, so the assumption is that one will be performing, and one will be interviewed. Those are two big stars to have on one show, so Ellen will surely have something special in store for a busy episode. Sheeran just dropped a new album, but Lovato hasn’t dropped a new album since 2015.
