June Festivals

The June Festival Preview

June is an exciting month full of more outdoor activities, the turn of a new season, and pleasant weather. Therefore, it parallels in the increase in music festival activity. June includes some of the most popular camping music festivals of the season in addition to other unique festival types across the country. Check out TicketNetwork’s June Festival Preview:

Bonnaroo Music + Arts Festival 〉 Manchester, TN

Bonnaroo is the most similar to Firefly in its woodsy, camping festival mentality. It is four days long, beginning Thursday June 8th and ending Sunday June 11th. Bonnaroo shoulders up to festivals such as Coachella in its iconic status, owning the camping music festival market in its size and excellence. However, be warned: Manchester, Tennessee in June is hot and humid.

U2 is headlining Friday as well as Major Lazer. Red Hot Chili Peppers take over Saturday night with Marshmello, Cage the Elephant, and Chance the Rapper. To complete the weekend, The Weeknd headlines Sunday with Lorde and Travis Scott as headliner acts, as well. In addition to music, Bonnaroo prides itself in its unique activities such as Yogaroo (yoga classes), Soberoo (meeting place for those who choose to remain sober for the festival), and many brand-name tents and mobile pop-up shops that add to the amenities available at the festival grounds. Bonnaroo also prides itself as being a music AND arts festival, so many different art areas and exhibits can be found throughout the grounds.

CMA Music Festival 〉 Nashville, TN

The CMA Music Festival brings together country’s greatest talents in the city that birthed country music. Nashville, TN’s Nissan Stadium will hold the CMA Music Festival from June 8th-11th. Highlights include Brad Paisley, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, Keith Urban, and basically every huge country star there is right now. Unfortunately, Chris Stapleton had to drop out of the CMA Music Festival due to personal circumstances; this cancellation coincided with the postponement of eight of his tour shows, as well.

Hot 97 Summer Jam 〉 East Rutherford, NJ

Hip-hop music is a highlight in many versions of Summer Jam. On the East Coast, Hot 97 Summer Jam occurs at Metlife Stadium on June 11th. Therefore, less a festival and more a one-day experience, the lineup boasts some of the biggest names in the industry. Chris Brown, Migos, and DJ Khaled are headlining on the Stadium Stage, and Young M.A. is the Festival Stage highlight.

Firefly Music Festival 〉 The Woodlands of Dover, DE

Similar to Bonnaroo, Firefly Music Festival is a four-day festival from Thursday June 15th to Sunday June 18th. This year’s headliners include Twenty One Pilots (Friday), The Weeknd (Saturday), Chance the Rapper (Saturday), Bob Dylan (Saturday), and Muse (Sunday). Due to its woodsy Delaware location, Firefly is one of the well-known musicals that truly interacts with nature. There are camping options as well as day passes. Areas such as “The Treehouse,” “Hammock Hangout,” and other unique Firefly experiences demonstrate the festival’s relationship with its forested grounds. Firefly also aims to reflect festivalgoer’s advice to improve each year, so the lineup and new amenities reflect past festivalgoer’s wishes.

Electric Forest 〉 Rothbury, MI

Electric Forest occurs during two weekends in June: June 22nd-25th and June 29th-July 2nd. It is the culmination of EDM music and quirky culture. Headliners this year include Odesza, Dillon Francis, My Morning Jacket, and The String Cheese Incident the first weekend and Flume and DJ Snake the second weekend in replacement of My Morning Jacket. This is the first year that the festival is expanding into two weekends to lessen the crowds while still being able to entertain the same level of attendance.

Paradiso Festival 〉 Quincy, WA

Paradiso Festival occurs at the iconic, gorgeous Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, WA. It boasts the slogan: “Where digital meets nature.” From theatrical performers to amusement rides to art installations, Paradiso makes a great case for one of the best West Coast festivals. Though there are no big-name artists in the lineup, renound DJ Marshmello, DJ Tiesto, and other established DJs make for mainstream highlights for the weekend. This is a camping-friendly festival, though the time length is on the shorter side for summer festivals. Paradiso also includes a Vendor Village like many other festivals that includes unique merch and creative art for the weekend. Paradiso 2017 dates are Friday June 23rd-Saturday June 24th.

Essence Music Festival 〉 New Orleans, LA

Essence Music Festival is in late June from June 29th to July 2nd. The name comes from Essence under Time Inc. focused on embracing and empowering African American women. Therefore, Essence Music Festival aligns its mission with the Essence brand by bringing the biggest African American artists together for a New Orleans music festival. This year, Diana Ross and John Legend are headlining Friday night. Chaka Khan and Mary J. Blige’s curated performer lineup are headlining Saturday, and Chance the Rapper is headlining Sunday. Though the festival is held indoors at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the festival runs all day. It includes daytime experiences such as beauty demonstrations, motivational seminars, Southern cooking, and more. However, note that you have to register for these experiences before attending the festival unlike other summertime festival events that attendees can wander to and from. Top 5 Concerts This Week

Top 5 Concerts

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood: Rogers Place│Edmonton, Alberta Canada│February 18th

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood continue their “Garth Brooks World Tour” into Canada. Saturday’s show is the second of nine nights. NINE.

What are they putting in their drinks?! Brooks’ concerts are so desirable that he and his wife book stints of shows in one place instead of travelling night-to-night. Rogers Place will host the couple for all nine nights. The shows run from February 17th to February 25th (sometimes twice-a-day!).

George Strait & Kacey Musgraves: T-Mobile Arena│Las Vegas, NV│February 18th

George Strait is doing something unique for the first two shows at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. His “Strait to Vegas Tour” began on the 17th, and for the first two nights (17th and 18th), he is brings Kacey Musgraves along for the ride. The two will perform together Friday and Saturday night. George Strait then takes a break until April when he begins his stint at T-Mobile Arena with scattered dates throughout the rest of 2017.

This is a unique combination because Kacey Musgraves represents the modern-day country generation while George Strait represents an older generation. They are both supremely talented, so it will be a heartwarming, enjoyable concert experience to see the intersection of these two country music generations.

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Madison Square Garden│New York, NY│February 18th

Red Hot Chili Peppers perform for three nights in New York (15th, 17th, and 18th). Saturday’s show marks the last of the three. This 90’s band has had a hot tour so far, full of rave reviews and huge crowds. “The Getaway Tour” began at the beginning of 2017 and carries through July. Madison Square Garden, dubbed “The World’s Most Famous Arena,” is always an iconic venue for musicians to play. This will be the last East Coast show until April.

Bon Jovi: Bridgestone Arena│Nashville, TN│February 18th

Bon Jovi is currently on their “This House is Not For Sale Tour.” Saturday’s venue is Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. It is the biggest indoor arena in Nashville, and many big musicians use it as their Nashville tour venue. The winner of Bon Jovi’s opening act contest for Nashville is the band Jake Johnson. On Bon Jovi’s official website, Jake Johnson’s statement reads,

“‘To say what I have to say would take a decade to complete,’ said Jake Johnson. ‘This dream is the summit of the mountain we have been climbing our whole lives, and now it has become a reality. The band and I would like to thank Bon Jovi, Live Nation, and everyone involved in the contest for making this possible. When we were kids, we held broomsticks and imagined the roar of the crowd. On February 18th, we will hear that deafening roar that echoed in our imaginations… but for real.'”

Twenty One Pilots & Judah and the Lion: American Airlines Center│Dallas, TX│February 22nd

Twenty One Pilots are fresh off of their huge Grammy win for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Stressed Out”). The Columbus, OH natives made a statement by accepting their award in their underwear. It seemed insulting at first, but they then explained an endearing story that reminds fans why their dedication to Twenty One Pilots is so strong. When the duo watched the Grammys years ago before the fame, all the boys sat around watching in their underwear. Tyler Joseph turned to second member Josh Dun and said, “If we ever win a Grammy, we got to accept it in our underwear.” There they were, years later, accepting a Grammy in their underwear. The story goes to show the age-old tale that anyone can rise to greatness and success, but it takes a lot of believing in yourself.

Twenty One Pilots are currently on tour for their “EMØTIØNAL RØADSHØW WØRLD TØUR” with Judah and the Lion. The tour continues until early March.

What’s In Tune

New Music

Ed Sheeran│”How Would You Feel (Paean)”

Selena Gomez and Kygo│”It Ain’t Me”

Gomez is off to a fire start of 2017. After catching the public’s attention with her heartfelt MTV VMAs speech in 2016, everybody knew she was taking a break from social media and touring due to side effects of her lupus. Then, PDA shots of her and The Weeknd flared up online news outlets. Now, she dropped a subtle yet powerful “It Ain’t Me” with Kygo on Thursday.

Though it contains a similar backbeat to many EDM tracks, Gomez’s presence and lyrics make it creative. The hair-flip, “over it” track is about moving on and leaving who she used to care about behind. Look out, Gomez is back in the ring and not playing around. If the hook, “Who’s waking up to drive you home when you’re drunk and all alone? Who’s gonna walk you through the dark side of the morning? It ain’t me…” doesn’t get stuck in your head…

Future│FUTURE (Digital Release)

Future Album 2017

After staying quiet for the later part of 2016, Future made a surprise announcement about a new project. FUTURE, a digital album, dropped today. The only notice was the same day as his “Nobody Safe Tour” announcement. Future is touring with Migos, Tory Lanez, and Kodak Black for his “Nobody Safe Tour” starting in May and going until June. A$AP Ferg and Young Thug are opening on select tour dates. It’s an epic line up and shows a strong front from Atlanta, in particular. Future always leans on his home city from his musical inspiration to close friends. Atlanta, much like New York, L.A., Chicago, is rapidly becoming the most important city for hip-hop. Future dropped this tweet on Valentine’s Day; the same day as the “Nobody Safe Tour” announcement.

I was preparing the feast. U walked away from the table too soon https://t.co/n1PFChLlyb

— FUTURE/FREEBANDZ (@1future) February 14, 2017

The tweet’s ambiguity makes the new work even more intriguing. All we know is the mysterious album cover art and that it is self-titled (as of now). There are seventeen tracks, but no features. EVOL, Future’s last full-length album, dropped in early 2016 . It featured the hit “Low Life” with The Weeknd. In addition, EVOL dropped only three weeks after his mixtape Purple Reign. Future also co-headlined with Drake for the “Summer Sixteen Tour.” Then, he dropped yet another mixtape with DJ Esco titled Project E.T. in June 2016. He was busy, but music-wise, he laid low heading into the end of the year. This is a fierce statement for the rapper, and it is exciting to hear what his new material holds.

FUTURE Tracklist:
1. “Rent Money”
2. “Good Dope”
3. “Zoom”
4. “Draco”
5. “Super Trapper”
6. “POA”
7. “Mask Off”
8. “High Demand”
9. “Outta Time”
10. “Scrape”
11. “Im So Groovy”
12. “Might As Well”
13. “Poppin Tags”
14. “Massage In My Room”
15. “Flip”
16. “When I Was Broke”
17. “Feds Did a Sweep”

Flume│Skin Companion II (EP)

Flume became a hot up-and-comer in 2016 with his second album Skin. Skin included radio hits “Never Be Like You” featuring Kai and “Say It” featuring pop star Tove Lo. Both are sensual and sassy hits that delve into love’s highs and lows. Flume is an Australian DJ, producer, and musician who grew to fame through remixing songs. His debut album Flume dropped in 2012 with sufficient reviews. However, it wasn’t until 2016 that the international music community (U.S. in particular) began to take notice.

Flume then dropped Skin Companion I in the latter half of 2016 with four songs on the EP. As an addition, he dropped Skin Companion II today. It also contains four songs. However, there are features on this section of Skin Companion including Pusha T in “Enough.” Flume seems to stray away from bubblegum, mainstream music and towards an edgier, hotter side to pop. It will be exciting to see if one of these songs lands itself on radio airwaves, or if it will take another full length album to keep the world’s attention on Flume.

Flume is not touring, but he is performing at a myriad of musical festivals in the coming months including Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Firefly Music Festival, Electric Forest… basically ever major summer music festival in the country.

Skin Companion II Tracklist:
1. “Enough” (featuring Pusha T)
2. “Weekend”
3. “Depth Charge”
4. “Fantastic” (featuring Dave Bayley)

Bebe Rexha│All Your Fault Pt. 1 (EP)

All Your Fault: Pt. 1
February 17
🌎 pic.twitter.com/wA6NymkAWK

— Bebe Rexha (@BebeRexha) February 1, 2017

Bebe Rexha is an up-and-coming artist in the mainstream music realm. She grew to fame through features in 2016. Huge artists like rapper G-Eazy and EDM artist Martin Garrix featured Rexha on their smashing 2016 radio hits. G-Eazy’s “Me, Myself & I” and Martin Garrix’s “In The Name of Love” include Rexha’s pop music vocals. Rexha is now looking to branch out. She is dropping her EP All Your Fault Pt. 1 that includes six tracks. Ironically, G-Eazy features on “Fuck Fake Friends;” Ty Dolla $ign features on “Bad Bitch.” That is a strong radio contender, as Ty Dolla $ign’s feature on Fifth Harmony’s “Work from Home” was a staple radio sing-a-long for months.

This will be the first new music since her 2015 I Don’t Wanna Grow Up. All Your Fault Pt. 2 is set to drop this year, but the exact timing is undecided. This is the chance for Rexha to step outside the tight space of being a features-only artist, so the hope is that she will grow into a Tove Lo over the next year. Rexha is on her “All Your Fault Tour” in March, hitting cities such as New York, Boston, Chicago, and L.A.

1. Atmosphere
2. I Got You
3. Small Doses
4. Fuck Fake Friends feat. G eazy
5. Gateway Drug
6. Bad Bitch feat. Ty Dolla $ign

Television Appearances

Cher│The Talk│February 17th

Cher is continuing her Vegas residencies at the Park Theater at Monte Carlo and The Theater at MGM National Harbor until September. Titled “Classic Cher,” the show runs at two venues in 2017. February 8th to 25th and May 3rd to 20th are the runs at Park Theater at Monte Carlo. March 17th to 26th and August 31st to September 10th are the legs at The Theater at MGM National Harbor. Cher will certainly discuss the upcoming residencies on The Talk to promote the shows.

Bebe Rexha│Live with Kelly│February 17th

Bebe Rexha is dropping her EP All Your Fault Pt. 1 today. She is on Live with Kelly, promoting her new work. Rexha featured on many radio hits in 2016 including G-Eazy’s “Me, Myself & I” and Martin Garrix’s “In the Name of Love.” Therefore, it’s time for her to carve her own solo career separate from features. Look out for more of Rexha on the talk show route promoting her new work before her tour starts in early March.

Mike Posner│Live with Kelly│February 20th

Mike Posner pulled an odd move on the Grammys red carpet. He and blackbear, his other half in their project Mansionz, showed up with bright green hair. Blackbear then spoke for Posner during their E! Live from the Red Carpet interview. Posner whispered into blackbear’s ear, and blackbear spoke for him to interviewer Giuliana Rancic. It apparently was supposed to attack the limited private life of celebrities, but instead, it came off as a rude and odd red carpet appearance.

Posner crashed charts with “I Took A Pill in Ibiza” in 2016. However, he is currently promoting Mansionz, a duo DJ project with Blackbear. It is a soulful, hip-hop project that will also include spoken word pieces. The duo has dropped two singles “stfu” and “rich white girls.” Posner dropped a solo album in 2016 titled At Night, Alone. He also has a poetry book coming out March 24th titled Teardrops and Balloons. Therefore, Live with Kelly will certainly incorporate the book’s promotion as well as an upcoming releases from Mansionz. And hopefully, the interview will provide some clarify on that odd Grammys moment.

NBCFuture│The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon│February 21st

Future had a big week. After announcing a surprise album, he also announced a huge tour with Migos, Tory Lanez, and Kodak Black hitting venues this summer. Titled “Nobody Safe Tour,” it lines up the Atlanta native for a big 2017. Future will most likely discuss his album as it drops today. It will be interesting to see how he’s progressed since EVOL, and if any of his fellow tour performers feature on his new tracks.

Gwen Stefani and Tove Lo│Late Night with Seth Meyers│February 21st

Gwen Stefani is back for her next season as a judge on NBC’s The Voice. Her public relationship with co-worker Blake Shelton sparked headlines after his divorce from Miranda Lambert. Stefani is back for this coming season, replacing Miley Cyrus. The judge lineup is Adam Levine, Shelton, Stefani, and Alicia Keys. Tove Lo had a big 2016 with the release of her sophomore album Lady Wood. It showed the pop star as an intense, seductive, twisted soul in the best way possible. She does not stay within the lines of presumed “radio worth.” Therefore, her career progressed past being a features artist.

Noah Cyrus│The Late Late Show with James Corden│February 21st

Noah Cyrus, for years, was just Miley Cyrus’ younger sister. That has forever changed. With the release of her single “Make Me (Cry)” featuring Labrinth, Noah officially broke out into her solo career. The song lit up charts with multiple versions, and 2017 is shaping up to be a big year for the young star. No living in Miley’s shadow anymore. Expect Cyrus to continue to plug forward with this success, and maybe Corden will reveal an album announcement during her time on the show. Corden also just hosted the 59th Annual Grammys, so his talk show host career is peaking.

Lionel Richie and Bebe Rexha│The Late Late Show with James Corden│February 22nd

Lionel Richie is set to start his tour with Mariah Carey in March, and the tour goes until May. Like all of Corden’s episodes, this will be a fun banter between Richie and Corden. Bebe Rexha will also make an appearance though Richie and Rexha have not collaborated. Expect to see an interesting mix between these two stars (one aged superstar and one up-and-comer).

Migos│The Ellen DeGeneres Show│February 20th

Migos is Atlanta’s prize hip-hop jewel. For years, they grinded away and influenced the rap culture, especially in their home city. Now, CULTURE projected them to the next level of fame with hit “Bad and Boujee.” The trio then announced a huge tour with Future, Tory Lanez, and Kodak Black titled “Nobody Safe Tour.” It doesn’t start until May, but in the meantime, Migos are celebrating their success with the new album. Expect an interesting interview and performance from Migos on Ellen, as the three members have known each other for years.

Jennifer Lopez│The Ellen DeGeneres Show│February 21st

Jennifer Lopez doesn’t age. She is as beautiful and as talented as ever. After presenting at the Grammys, Lopez is stopping by The Ellen Show. Lopez is continuing her Vegas residency at The Axis at Planet Hollywood. The title of the residency is “All I Have.” She has a few dates left in February before a break. Then, she is back from May to June. She concludes the residency with a string of September/October dates.

Demi Lovato│The Ellen DeGeneres Show│February 22nd

Demi Lovato is also on The Ellen Show this coming week. She has not dropped a new album since Confident in 2015. Confident was a strong comeback for the pop singer. After struggling with alcoholism and drug addictions in addition to self harm, Lovato seems to be strongly moving forward in her career. Hits from the album include “Confident” and “Cool for the Summer.” Maybe her Ellen appearance will mark a new music announcement? Fans can only hope.

Every Fan of Hip-Hop Wins with Future’s “Nobody Safe” Tour

February 15, 2017 by Nate

Future "Nobody Safe" Tour

Future is ready to shut down the hip-hop world again with another blockbuster tour in 2017. Last year Drake and Future ruled “Summer Sixteen,” and this year Future has recruited a crop of the rap game’s best for his “Nobody Safe” Tour.

Joining him will be Migos, Tory Lanez and Kodak Black. Here’s a rundown of what each of the aforementioned will bring to the tour in 2017.

Turn Up Trio

America is getting used to Migos in the spotlight, as their 2017 album, CULTURE landed at No. 1 on the Billboard charts for a brief period. The trio from Atlanta (also Future’s home town) will fit in nicely on this tour. Migos have been living on the radio as of late. However, their album featured many quality songs that the mainstream fan might not have heard yet.

Migos will likely take the stage right before Future and be tasked with cranking up the intensity a notch. Migos have launched their own minor tour after their latest album, and it should serve as a nice tune-up for this massive summer tour.

Quavo, Takeoff and Offset, the members of Migos, are putting fans of hip-hop on notice. Migos have a massive influence on the rap game, even if the mainstream audience have yet to take the hint. People love Future, but plenty of people will be buying tickets just to see Migos take their career to the next level.

Late Night Luv

Tory Lanez will be the calm before the storm on this tour. Not to say that he won’t bring it, but Migos and Future embody a different type of energy.

Lanez is a smooth rapper from Toronto. His music tends to stray on the R&B side from time to time, but his rap prowess can’t be underestimated. “Say It,” and “Luv” have been his biggest singles to date.

His stock is trending up in early 2017, and he’ll be able to set a tone for the upcoming acts on the “Nobody Safe” Tour. Lanez will bring his fair share fans to each show, and definitely earn some new ones once they hear him perform live.

Kodak Moment

That brings us to Kodak Black. The Florida native has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons, but his working hard to clear his name. After a short stint in jail, Kodak Black has been releasing hits that the gritty rap community has appreciated. Although he is new on the rap scene, he works with some of the best rappers in the game, boosting his street cred a bit.

This tour will definitely be the highlight of his young career. He must step up and make the most of it as there are plenty of young rappers that would do anything to take Kodak Black’s spot on this tour.

His style of rap is polarizing. Many fans of true hip-hop believe that Kodak Black’s flow and delivery are amateur. However, there is a new wave fans addicted to the movement that is being driven by Kodak Black, 21 Savage and Lil Uzi Vert among others.

Kodak Black’s fans will love to hear “SKRT” and “No Flockin” live including a few of his other hits that have made it to the airwaves.

Star of the Show

Future deserves a bunch of credit for putting this line up together. All are rising stars in the world of hip-hop, but their own unique style will make this a must-see show.

The Atlanta rapper has also been stealing headlines for the past week. Future recently announced a 17-track surprise album that will drop this Friday. His tour set list should consist of most of this upcoming album. Also, fans should expect to hear many of the hits he released in 2016.

Future is responsible for his own rap movement as well. His chopped-and-screwed style and trance like tone has been duplicated many times over by rappers looking to make it big. The respect he has garnered over the years is evident by the set of rappers eager to join his tour.

If his album is a hit, followed by a successful summer tour, Future’s time will be the present. Drake’s tag-team partner is not a bad gig in the hip-hop world, but Future is ready to get back in to his own lane.

There is no doubt this tour will be a wild ride, and Future fans can’t wait to see the rapper back on the stage.

“Nobody Safe” Tour tickets for the 2017 tour are available here at TicketNetwork.

Drop the Mic: Country in the Wintertime (Garth Brooks, It’s Cold Outside.)

January 27, 2017 by Jenna

Top 5 Concerts This Week

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood demonstrate that country concerts aren’t dead just because the temperature drops below freezing. Actually, some of the biggest stars in the genre tour during the winter months. The schedule is less crowded, there is room for big indoor arena shows, and country music fans do listen all year round. Don’t get me wrong: there’s something special about hearing a country concert on a warm summer night at an outdoor venue. However, the big stars can still draw a crowd in January, February, anytime of the year. Garth Brooks is heading the Top 5 Concerts of this coming week with his wife Trisha Yearwood, proving that the genre lives on in the dead of winter.

Top 5 Concerts

Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood: US Bank Arena│Cincinnati, OH│January 28th

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood have a string of shows lined up for Cincinnati. US Bank Arena, one of the city’s biggest indoor event spaces, hosts the country duo for five nights spanning over a week. The weekend of January 21st and the weekend of January 27th are for the Garth Brooks World Tour. Ever since Garth Brooks took time off to focus on his family, Brooks’ return to the touring circuit is in full force.

No matter how many dates Garth Brooks adds, the demand is always for more. This tour’s set up (consecutive nights in one city) hints at an older, well-known musician. The less travelling, the easier the tour route. Therefore, Garth Brooks’ ability to book five shows in one city helps him as a performer as well as fans who have a plethora of concert options to choose from. Yearwood, though lesser known, has made huge tracks in the culinary and lifestyle realm outside of her music. Their popularity together cannot be capped.

Twenty One Pilots & Judah and the Lion: PPG Paints Arena│Pittsburgh, PA│January 27th

Twenty One Pilots are on the road for their ” EMØTIØNAL RØADSHØW WØRLD TØUR” with Judah and the Lion. The reviews of the show have been overwhelmingly positive. This is no surprise because Twenty One Pilots are known for their performative style. Masks, settings, and intense lighting effects make for a great show, as the duo plays with their songs’ meanings.

Twenty One Pilots Review

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Joe Louis Arena│Detroit, MI│February 2nd

Red Hot Chili Peppers are on a huge tour in the winter and spring months. It is the typical cold-weather tour, as the band is hitting all the major indoor arenas including three nights at Madison Square Garden. Not sure what show you want to see? Check out our current average ticket prices for RHCP’s tour stops, and see which stop is best for your budget!

Note: This graph just shows the average ticket price. Therefore, the graph might skew higher or lower than the median depending on the price of the cheapest and most expensive tickets available for each show.

Billy Joel: Amway Center│Orlando, FL│January 27th

Billy Joel’s only Florida concert for the foreseeable future is in Orlando tonight. He follows the show with a February date in New Orleans. From there his Madison Square Garden residency continues with scattered stops through spring. Joel then gears up for his summer tour at popular, historic baseball venues through the country. This includes Wrigley Field and Fenway Park. Therefore, for those who escape the cold with some Southern sunshine, this is your change to see The Piano Man live! Joel will most likely venture down to Florida again in fall or winter 2017, but until then, the Orlando show is the only time Joel will be in The Sunshine State for awhile. Furthermore, many of the baseball venues and other arenas are located in the North or West Coast.

Eric Church: TD Garden│Boston, MA│January 28th

Eric Church is beginning his “Holdin’ My Own Tour” running through the spring. Uniquely, an aspect of Church’s tour is that he truly is holdin’ his own. There are no openers. Though openers are a great way to stack the lineup, there is also a downside to a concert filled with performers besides the main act. Some believe it distracts from complete focus on the main act or for other insulting reasons. Church’s no-openers decision is very in line with his musical career path.

He’s a burly, intense man who seems to plow forward in whatever direction he deems fit regardless of outside opinions. He also disregards following to the “bro country route:” when older country celebrities continue to release party songs, though the singers disconnect from the meaning, to try to boost sales. Furthermore, Church is very genuine to himself. With his new role as a husband and father, he has stated that though his music persona is manly, he now brings the gentle characteristics from being a dad and husband to his music. There really is no one else like him in country, and what fans can guarantee is a real experience with a guy who doesn’t bullshit.

What’s In Tune

New Albums

Kehlani│SweetSexySavage

SweetSexySavage Album Cover

Kehlani dropped SweetSexySavage, and it proved that she really is the female artist in the R&B realm. She will be starting her “SweetSexySavage World Tour” in the upcoming months. The last minute drop gives Migos a huge competitor for new music attention. Kehlani’s R&B is brilliant because, though she’s tough, she reveals her wounds and vulnerability through her lyrics. Therefore, love and any other subject is set for exposure.

Migos│C U L T U R E

Migos Culture

Migos

In a recent The Fader interview, Migos member Offset (one of three members) stated,

“The new album title is about the culture of hip-hop music. It’s time to let the culture be known. It’s time to claim it. And it’s time to claim that we are the Migos, and for people to understand that this is what we did. We did a lot for music. Migos is the culture. Seriously. There are artists that are way bigger than us that get recognition off our flow.”

They are the group to watch in the hip-hop industry. Their song “Bad and Boujee” is the song on the radio. After slamming the charts at No. 1 upon release, “Bad and Boujee” quickly became the new “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd. Ironically, both are groups with names that mask the identity of multiple members, almost like a reverse of The Weeknd.

Don’t be quick to think that they’re new if you haven’t heard of them before. In fact, Migos have been around for a long time, recording, grinding, earning recognition. Drake covered their hit “Versace” and pushed Migos a little closer to the spotlight. Then, they invented The Dab, a move promoted through NFL player Cam Newton, as he’d dab after scoring touchdowns. Then, the whole world was dabbing. Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, thanked the group during his 2017 Golden Globes speech. It seems that slowly but surely, Migos is taking their rightful stop on the hip-hop icons platform.

Therefore, C U L T U R E is an album that is important as a next step forward to the genre. After Coloring Book, 2017 is open to the next progression. Migos’ long resume places them at a pivotal spot in their career. They have the talent, flash, and experience. It is whether the general public will push them to the next level of respect. The Fader interview focused a lot on this: the last few years since “Versace,” and how Migos themselves knows their worth. It’s if and when that translates to superstardom.

Train a girl a bottle a boat

“Play that Song”

Train preceded this album with “Play That Song,” a classic catchy radio tune that flooded mainstream/mainstream rock radio stations. It didn’t particularly soar. Some of Train’s past hits are also can’t-get-out-of-your-head, but they come across less forced with more substance. “Play That Song” seems like the trap that Andy Grammer tipped into with “Honey, I’m Good.” Both Train and Grammer’s voices are phenomenal because they’re recognizable pop rock, similar to Adam Levine’s. However, though “Honey, I’m Good” was successful, it fell into the typical artist sinkhole of brief radio success but no depth to further a career. Radio play certainly helps with success, sales, and marketing. Yet, if an artist only focuses on “finding the hit,” the vapidity of the new work deflates like a popped balloon.

“Play That Song” seemed to be a set up for a perfect tour name, almost like Train had the entire upcoming schedule plotted out instead of focusing on the importance of recording good music. The band is touring from May until July with openers Natasha Bedingfield and O.A.R. That all being said, fans are curious to see if a girl a bottle a boat falls into the same trap.

I hope that more singles from the album will bring Train back to the Save Me, San Francisco days. What I believe to be the last great Train music. That album is based on their city, and that in itself digs into a greater importance to stabilize the work. Furthermore, “Marry Me” is a delicate, beautiful love song. “Save Me, San Francisco” is a twangy sing-a-long with a twist of grit. “Hey, Soul Sister” sounds the most radio-cliche, but even then, its unique lyrics spin it to a more Jason-Mraz sound.

I am hoping for the best, as Train is a great 90’s band that keeps plugging through decades. Moreover, their love for their city, brand extensions, and other projects connect to my undying love of “Drops of Jupiter.” Much like Grammer’s “Fresh Eyes” that leaned more into a less-annoying wheelhouse, I hope Train produces something more similar to their genuine artistic roots. I want say, “Play that song,” and mean it.

Television Appearances

Train│Live with Kelly│January 27th

Train dropped their album a girl a bottle a boat today. After decades performing as a band, Train is continuing to plow forward. Their single “Play That Song” is a typical radio hit from the group with upbeat swings and a catchy chorus. Therefore, Train will be on Live with Kelly promoting their new music. In the spring, the band will set off on their “Play That Song Tour” with Natasha Bedingfield and O.A.R.

Kings of Leon│Late Night with Seth Meyers│January 30th

Kings of Leon are in the middle of their “WALLS World Tour.” However, the band recently postponed a show due to one of the bandmates getting pneumonia. Hopefully, everyone will feel better by the end of January. Seth Meyers, an former actor on SNL, is instrumental in the late night television show lineup. It’s a good pairing with indie rockers Kings of Leon, and it will surely be a good performance.

Machine Gun Kelly and Camila Cabello│The Ellen DeGeneres Show│January 30th

It’s not often that a pair appears on a talk show when they’re not a performing duo. However, rules twist for Camila Cabello and Machine Gun Kelly. This is because both have made their name through their duet, “Bad Things.” Furthermore, Machine Gun Kelly is a solo rapper, and Cabello is an ex-member of Fifth Harmony. In fact, her exit filled social media with drama and riff between the group and herself, but like any group, there comes a time when ~split happens~. Therefore, Cabello and Machine Gun Kelly are using the song’s success to buoy their solo careers, as the two will certainly try to ride “Bad Things” into branching solo work. Expect the pair to perform the song on the show.
